I wanted to share what I saw in Downtown Los Angel I wanted to share what I saw in Downtown Los Angeles yesterday. I went with a friend and our two adult kids. We got to LA City Hall after 2 pm and the first thing we said to each other was that there weren’t that many people there. Nothing like the women’s march or BLM protests.

Demonstrators peacefully marched to the detention center. Police came in riot gear and after a little while they shot flash bangs. Later, we went over to the freeway overpass and saw protesters on the freeway get pushed back toward the onramp and arrested. Police shot flash bangs and used what I think was tear gas.

We saw a guy spray painting, a few people throwing things at police, and we saw two Waymos on fire. Most people were peaceful and it definitely wasn’t a riot or heading that way. People were passing out water and masks.

The only time I felt like it could get unsafe* for us was late in the day when people started walking quickly toward us. Police on horseback and some walking were pushing protesters back to clear a street. One officer was shooting what I think were rubber bullets at people walking away. A guy walk/running by stopped when he saw me standing there and said, “protect yourself.” My son and I were thinking about staying but that’s when I said we needed to go home with our friends.

A couple of blocks away there was no evidence anything was happening in the city. We got on the freeway easily and were home within 25 minutes. Again, there was no rioting, police weren’t overrun as far as I could see.

*not that I didn’t flinch every time a flash bang went off. It was the loudest, most nervewracking noise I’ve ever heard.

Quick bargain roadtrip to Vegas last weekend inclu Quick bargain roadtrip to Vegas last weekend included the Eagles at the Sphere, Red Rock Canyon hiking, and Bruno Mars’ Pinky Club! Did you know that the Pinky Club in the Bellagio has tables that go for as much as $5k?! But you can also just walk in with no reservation and dance to a DJ and live band playing 80s and 90s hip hop all night long?! They don’t allow pictures in the club so none here. Another great deal we discovered was buying tickets to The Sphere minutes before the show started. We also stayed at Virgin Hotel off the strip and were upgraded to a suite. #visitlasvegas #redrockcanyon #thesphere

Homeowners aren’t the only ones experiencing los Homeowners aren’t the only ones experiencing loss and difficult times after the fires. @delosangelestimes Across Los Angeles, an untold number of immigrant domestic workers and service workers are grappling with not only the loss of their jobs and incomes due to the fires that destroyed thousands of homes across the region, but also the threat of mass deportations under the Trump administration, which is making it difficult for some to look for new jobs or feel safe accessing services.

All of it has put major pressures on immigrant workers who do not have easy access to support.

“Immigrant communities are facing a mountain of obstacles, of adversities that of course will impact our mental health,” said Germán A. Cadenas, associate professor at Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology.
