I’ve been an empty nester for three weeks and other than the first day when I poured chocolate sauce into a half-full tub of ice cream and ate all of it while rewatching Ted Lasso, I’ve been handling it well I think. I’ve filled the giant void left by my two college sons with work, working out, and social events. Any extra time is spent baking birthday cakes for For Goodness Cakes and for friends. It’s my meditation (unless I f-it up, then it’s my rage spiral) and it makes me feel good to give back doing something I love so much. And I truly believe that every child and teen deserves a homemade cake on their birthday. And so does every 50 year old woman celebrating a punkera cinquentañera. These are all the cakes I’ve made starting with my absolute favorite cake of all time starring Yasmin, pretty-in-punk Bratz doll.

What a week! My younger son and I went to CUBoulder to see where he’s going to school 😀😭😀😭. Husband and I saw Company at the Pantages - wonderful!! I presented a workshop at Women Who Submit Beyond the Writing Conference about how to promote your writing on social media. I learned I DO like poetry. Spotted a beautiful Virgen de Guadalupe in ktown. And I ended the weekend with friends at Dynasty Typewriter hearing the inside scoop on Gilmore Girls from the incomparable TV writer Sheila R. Lawrence. Good times ☀️🍾🌮
