Last night was the best evening of theatre I’ve had in a very long time. Elise of Elise’s Ramblings took me as her guest to see God of Carnage at the Ahmanson. It was my first time there and it was fabulous. The theater itself was beautiful and we had front row seats. We were lucky to have opening night tickets, which meant the place was sick with celebrities. I said something nonsensical to Eric Stonestreet who plays Cam on Modern Family. We also saw Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Martin Sheen, Tony Shalhoub, and Jason Alexander.
The celebrity sightings were fun, but that’s not why it was a great night of theatre. The play was incredibly good. It was powerful and funny and very engaging. I’m an exhausted work-at-home mom and I can fall asleep anywhere anytime, but there was no way anyone could be anything but riveted by this play.
It stars Marcia Gay Harden, Hope Davis, Jeff Daniels, and James Gandolfini. It’s the story of two couples that get together to talk about an incident involving their children. It devolves into a battle about marriage, parenthood, and morality. I really love all of these actors and they were extraordinary.
