Here’s what I want from a kid’s movie. I want my kids and I to be entertained, I want them to be enlightened in some way, and I definitely don’t want sarcastic, mean spirited characters.
Cars 2 is, quite honestly, fantastic. Not only does it have all of the things I look for, but it has cool car chases, secret agents, a strong female character, and enough action to make a James Bond movie look boring.
It starts back in Radiator Springs where Lightening McQueen has come home to relax and spend time with friends. Soon he’s whisked off to a race in Tokyo where he has a falling out with best buddy Tow Mater. It then turns into a spy movie that leads the gang from Tokyo to Paris to London.
Not only is there action and laughs, there’s a nice thread of acceptance. Lightening must accept his friend for who he is. And of course I loved the storyline about green energy and conspiracy theories (don’t want to give away too much).
My boys liked it even more than I did and we were not big fans of the first Cars movie. When I asked them what they thought of it, they both gave me two thumbs up. Here’s the trailer (with the Gnarls Barkley song Run, one of my personal favorites.)
