Getty Villa: Tea by the Sea

One of the loveliest days I’ve had here in Los Angeles was with my mom at the Getty Villa last year. We only had about an hour and a half because we had to fit it in between preschool drop-offs and picks ups. The grounds were so lovely and the art was fantastic, but we only had a glimpse.
I wish she could have come with me Wednesday for Tea by the Sea. A group of some fabulous bloggers and I had a tour of the grounds and an amazing meal.

The Getty Villa is in Pacific Palisades and it was built to look like the roman country house Villa dei Papiri, which was buried during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It’s amazing.

After a tour through the museum, we walked through the ancient Mediterranean-style gardens. We saw the apricot trees that produced the fruit for the snacks we would later eat and learned that figs were (or are) thought to be aphrodisiacs.

After the garden, we got to the best part; the food. We had a three tiered platter with sandwiches, fruit and cheese, and desserts. My favorites were the Shrimp and Cucumber with Tarragon Aioli on Foccacia, port infused cheese, and the tea breads. The Prosecco wasn’t bad either.

I had a long drive back and a babysitter to pay, but it was so worth it.

The Tea by the Sea happens every Thursday from 1 to 3 and is $36 a person (prosecco is extra). If you’re looking for something to do with your kids this weekend, the Getty Villa is hosting a family festival on Sunday. Kids can learn the Art of Ancient Greek Theatre by making masks or performing in an ancient Greek play. It’s free, but you need reservations.

That sounds so beautiful. I have been looking for a bonding moment for me and Jeremy. I think we'll go straight there after her appointment with our Raleigh dentists. She needs to have some veneers, but I hope her Raleigh NC dentist will also allow her to eat the delicious food you mentioned. I'm just excited to visit it! Thanks again for sharing.
